The use of the word LOGOS in the name of our patent office means ‘a logical sentence’. An invention per se obeys natural laws and no sentences are necessary for the invention per se to exist or act. However, under the current patent system, in order to obtain a patent for an invention, it is essential to express the invention in sentences. We grasp the contents of an invention both linguistically and non-linguistically and express the invention in logical sentences, so as to assist our clients in obtaining patent rights for their inventions. Specifically, we express an invention in accurate and logical sentences, with the aid of figures, mathematical formulas, tables, and the like, to assist our clients in obtaining patent rights for their inventions and to further assist them in utilizing their patent rights. At the same time, it is also our motto to support our clients’ businesses from the perspective of industrial property rights, while bearing in mind the purposes of various laws relating to industrial property right s , such as the purpose of Japanese Patent Law set forth by Article 1 thereof, “the purpose of this Law is, through promoting the protection and the utilization of inventions, to encourage, and thereby to contribute to the development of industry” and the purpose of Japanese Trademark Law set forth by Article 1 thereof, “the purpose of this Law is, through the protection of trademarks, to ensure the maintenance of business confidence of persons who use trademarks and thereby to contribute to the development of the industry and to protect the interests of consumers”, as well as the duties of patent attorneys set forth by Article 3 of Japanese Patent Attorney Act, “a patent Attorney shall at all times maintain his/her dignity, be knowledgeable about laws, regulations and practices concerning the business, and conduct his/her business in a fair and sincere manner”.
